In the heat of the day,
In the cool of the pool,
He was splashing,
enjoying the jungle's great joys.
When, Horton the Elephant,
heard a small noise.

In 1954, Theodore Seuss Geisel *aka Dr. Seuss* published Horton Hears a Who! that features a favorite lovable elephant (who also made his debut in Horton Hatches an Egg ) saving a small world from danger that happens to be a size of a dust speck.

After the end of WWII, Seuss wrote this to end his feelings of animosity, calling for Americans to treat Japan's democracy with care, referring to the phrase, "A person's a person, no matter how small."

In 1970, it was featured as a half-hour animated TV special, directed by Chuck Jones. The Mayor of Whoville, who played a major role in the book, was replaced by a scientist named Dr. H. Hoovey, and the Sour Kangaroo was given the name "Jane."

In 2008, Horton returns in a full-length 3-D animation feature film starring Jim Carrey and Steve Carell.

Today's the day of celebrating the 54th anniversary of one of the most beloved children's books to be written.
